Carlisle give go-ahead

This afternoon’s fixture at Carlisle will go ahead as planned after the course passed a 9.30am inspection.

Clerk of the course Jonnie Fenwicke-Clennell believed prospects were only 50-50 earlier in the day with snow on parts of the track, but the weather has improved sufficiently to give racing the go-ahead.

“We’re giving it a go,” he said. “At the moment we have some nice sunshine and the snow has gone.

“But the ground is now heavy and it’s very wet here.”

While the course is raceable at present and no further inspection is planned, Fenwicke-Clennell warns any more significant precipitation could be problematic.

“We wouldn’t want any significant downpours now, but it’s fingers crossed we’ll be OK,” he added.
