The Chief Inspector of the Garda Inspectorate has said that the force needs updated technology and better equipment if they’re to successfully tackle gangland crime.
Kathleen O’Toole was addressing the Annual Conference of the Association of Garda Sergeants and Inspectors this afternoon.
She said equipment such as ballistic and stab-proof vests, pepper sprays and elongated batons are necessary.
But the former Boston Police Chief said she doesn’t think the Gardaí should become an armed force.
