Seven children were feared drowned after a small ferry boat capsized in a remote area of north-eastern Brazil.

Police said today the bodies of four children have already been found following the accident near the town of Pilao Arcado.

Rescuers were searching for the others.

Authorities suspect strong winds and rough waters caused the boat to capsize.

The four children found dead – all less than six years old – are from the same family, as are at least three of the seven still missing.

Police said seven people – mostly adults – survived the accident.
