Dublin Bay will be the location of one of the biggest staged rescue exercises in the history of the state today.

Helicopters, lifeboats and fleets of ambulances will be involved in the evacuation of a ferry with 100 people on board.

The exercise is being carried out as a dress rehearsal to keep emergency services ready to act in case of a real emergency.

The emergency will be treated as real by all the members of the services involved and a spokesman for the Irish Coastguard says it will be an extensive exercise.
