Sydney is facing a new threat as bush fires have encircled the city - deadly snakes are fleeing the flames and entering the suburbs.

Sydney is facing a new threat as bush fires have encircled the city - deadly snakes are fleeing the flames and entering the suburbs.

Thousands of Australian firefighters continue to battle more than 100 bush fires but lighter winds have provided some relief for the crews.

Some airliners are being diverted from landing at Sydney Airport, although the airport is continuing to operate.

The bush fires have raged around Sydney and other parts of New South Wales for more than a week.
