The Northern Ireland secretary of state has claimed the French government may not go ahead with plans to build a new airport for Paris on the site of Somme war graves.

The Northern Ireland secretary of state has claimed the French government may not go ahead with plans to build a new airport for Paris on the site of Somme war graves.

John Reid has been involved in raising objections with the French authorities over the proposal.

Today he said that while no final decision has been taken there has been a cooling of interest in the plan following the appointment of a new transport minister Giles de Robien, who is opposed to the plan.
