A gunman has killed a Christian minister in central Indonesia, where religious tensions have been mounting since the executions last month of three Catholic militants.
Reverend Irianto Kongkoli was shot in the head while visiting a shop with his wife in Palu, the provincial capital of Central Sulawesi, today.
The region’s police chief Brigadier General Badrudin Haiti said the gunman sped off on a motorcycle with an accomplice, adding that the motive of the attack was not yet clear.
Tensions have risen in the region since the executions of three Catholic men who were accused of leading a militia in Sulawesi in 2000 that carried out an assault on an Islamic school, killing at least 70 people.
