Gardaí are today investigating the alleged misappropriation of funds totaling more than €60,000 at the Cork Opera House.

Fraud Squad detectives were contacted by bosses at the venue last week after they became aware of financial discrepancies.

It is understood that gardaí believe that the alleged financial irregularities at the 1,000-seat theatre may have been going on for up to a year.

The venue has reported a €300,000 loss and has been temporarily closed for a number of weeks.
