Items relevant to O’Connor saga stolen during EFI break-in

Documents relating to the alleged doping of the Olympic horse Waterford Crystal were reportedly stolen during yesterday morning's break-in at the Equestrian Federation of Ireland's offices.

Gardaí have refused to confirm exactly what was taken during the break-in in Kill, Co Kildare, but reports this morning said EFI president Avril Doyle had said the stolen items were "relevant to recent happenings".

The theft came just a day after it emerged that a portion of the 'B' sample taken from Waterford Crystal following Cian O'Connor's gold medal performance at the Athens Olympics had been stolen while en route from Paris to Britain for testing.

The 'A' sample had earlier tested positive for a banned substance.

Meanwhile, RTE claimed yesterday to have received an anonymous fax saying that the substances found in the horse were drugs normally reserved for the treatment of human illnesses.
