New research out today claims there has been significant positive change in Irish attitudes to public drunkenness over the last few years.
The findings by Millward Brown have been published by drinkaware.ie, a programme supported by the drinks industry aimed at promoting responsible consumption of alcohol.
drinkaware.ie is asking people to break the "drunken Irish" stereotype this St Patrick's Day.
Chief Executive Fionnuala Sheehan said: "92% of Irish adults now believe that being drunk in public is very unattractive to the opposite sex. 82% have become much more aware of excessive drinking and how it affects others.
"86% believe excessive drinking is becoming less acceptable."
