Shepherd to vent fury on Bowyer and Dyer

Disgusted Newcastle chairman Freddy Shepherd will today carpet Lee Bowyer and Kieron Dyer after the blackest day of his reign.

Disgusted Newcastle chairman Freddy Shepherd will today carpet Lee Bowyer and Kieron Dyer after the blackest day of his reign.

Shepherd will haul the England midfielders into his office to blast them over their disgraceful brawl during Saturday’s 3-0 home defeat by Aston Villa.

Both men were sent off by referee Barry Knight and will miss the FA Cup semi-final against Manchester United on April 17 as a result, unless the club’s pleas for Dyer to be treated more leniently because he was not the aggressor prove successful.

But in the meantime, Shepherd will lay down the law and is likely to warn the pair their futures with the club are on the line.

“I am deeply embarrassed, hurt and angry,” he said. “It was just unbelievable. I could hardly believe what my eyes were telling me.

“It was a black day for Newcastle United and, speaking personally, the worst day I have experienced as chairman of this football club. I never thought I would see two of our own players fighting.”
