The chairman of the politicial party associated with the UDA is calling on the paramilitary group to issue a statement on the wave of pipebomb attacks on nationalists and Catholics in the North.

John White of the Ulster Democratic Party said he does not believe the UDA was responsible for last night's bombing of an SDLP office in North Belfast.

He added that the group was probably being wrongly blamed for many of the attacks in recent months.

There has been over 30 attacks in Co Antrim and Co Derry and Mr White said the bombings were totally and absolutely wrong and should stop.
