Oldham chief executive Alan Hardy has revealed the sale of teenager Scott Spencer to Everton will help ease the club’s debts.

Oldham chief executive Alan Hardy has revealed the sale of teenager Scott Spencer to Everton will help ease the club’s debts.

Spencer, 17, has not featured for the Latics’ first team, but has attracted interest from a host of Premiership clubs, including Bolton, with Everton winning the chase for an undisclosed fee.

“We’re sorry to see him go, you always are with young talent, but we wish Scott all the best and the initial money we get will help reduce the losses there are going to be this season,” Hardy said.

“It will also help justify the continued investment we’re making in our youth development system.”
