The inquest into the death of Tipperary teenager Brian Rossiter, who died in garda custody six years ago, is due to get underway today.

The 14-year-old, from Clonmel, was arrested for an alleged public order offence and taken to Clonmel garda station in September 2002.

He was found unconscious in his cell the following morning and died two days later in Cork University Hospital.

An inquiry into his death found no evidence of assault and concluded that his arrest was lawful, but his detention wasn't.

Around 40 witnesses are expected to give evidence at the inquest.
