A nationwide network for Men in Childcare (MiC) has been established.

The main aim of the MiC network is to work towards an increased representation of men in the early years sector in Ireland, with emphasis on the benefits of the child.

The network is also to inform and support men who may be interested in a career in the childcare sector.

Also the network will work to ensure the safety of children in childcare by urging for full implementation of Garda clearance throughout the area of early education.

The childcare sector in Ireland has the lowest representation of male workers in Europe at less than 1%.

The MiC network is urging the Government to address these issues and look at potential ways to redress the imbalance.
