The Taoiseach has told the Dáil that the Irish referendum on the EU constitution is likely to take place next year.

Nine countries will hold separate referenda to pass the constitution.

If it is defeated in one country, it collapses.

The Taoiseach has said a major information campaign will be undertaken.

“If you look back over a number of campaigns we have had on Maastrict, Amsterdam and the Single European Act, it does require a period of work and information and at least education about what is in it. People will make up their owns minds, but we have to ensure that that at least happens.”
