A murder suspect on the run from Oregon police was arrested after crashing into a prison in a stolen truck.

Police in Canyon City say the fugitive drove up a wheelchair ramp and rammed the entrance doors.

He then smashed through a vehicle checkpoint, parked up neatly and shouted "I'm the guy you're looking for".

Sheriff Glenn Palmer said: "Heck of a way to turn yourself in. He could have knocked, we would have obliged."

Almeron William Hinton, 45, is accused of killing his parents on February 17, according to reports.

Hinton was arrested and is being held on a $5m bail.
