'Creativity needed to tackle obesity' says primary school principals

Primary school principals have said we need to be more creative in how we try to tackle obesity in children.

They are urging the Government to reform how PE classes are run in schools and to allocate more time to exercise.

The Irish Primary Principal Network has said physical activity should be incorporated into as many subjects as possible.

President of the IPPN Maria Doyle has explained: “It doesn’t mean that you have to isolate PE as just an individual subject,

“There are so many things that can be done with PE and I will give you an example, you can integrate Irish so terribly well into your PE class, give your commands in Irish and introduce and influence the Irish culture as well through the dance element of PE."
