TV deal sparks prize fund boost

The eircom League prize fund for this season has been increased with the winners set to receive a €100,000 windfall – a massive €82,000 increase on last season.

The eircom League prize fund for this season has been increased with the winners set to receive a €100,000 windfall – a massive €82,000 increase on last season.

The extra money, part of a €450,000 prize fund, comes from the extra revenue generated for the League from the new multi-channel television deal that was announced two weeks ago.

There is substantial increases on offer for every club in the league, as even the last placed club will receive €5,000 in prize money.

First Division champions will also see their prize go up to €25,000, as will the League Cup winners and Fair Play League winners.

There will also be benefits for clubs who’s game will shown live as part of the new television deal which will see at least 24 live matches shown this season.
