Flood of money for River

Cloone River has been the subject of heavy support with Cashmans ahead of a possible defence of his Guinness Galway Hurdle crown.

Paul Nolan’s nine-year-old landed a massive gamble when taking the Grade One race by two lengths last year.

“Following strong support all morning we have been forced to cut Cloone River into 9-4 from an opening show of 3-1,” said spokesman Joseph Burke.

“This has been our busiest start to a Galway Hurdle ever and the sheer volume of support for the horse would suggest that Cloone River will be accompanied by his stablemate Accordion Etoile.

“Therefore, he would be running off 10st 7lb, the same weight he carried to victory last year as the 7-2 heavily-backed favourite.”

If Nolan decided against running top-weight Accordion Etoile, Cloone River’s weight would rise dramatically.

Galway Hurdle, Cashmans bet: 9-4 Cloone River, 5-1 Accordion Etoile, 7-1 Silk Screen, 10-1 Definate Spectacle, Mutakarrim, Say What You See, Callow Lake, 11-1 Calorando, 12-1 Tiger Cry, High Priestess, 14-1 Overstrand, Akshar, 16-1 In The Forge, More Rainbows, 20-1 Portant Fella.
