PSV Eindhoven tonight claimed they had reached an agreement with Charlton for the transfer of Danish striker Dennis Rommedahl.
The Addicks had earlier played down reports that the 25-year-old had signed for the Premiership club.
A report on the Dutch outfit’s official website, www.psv.nl, said: “An agreement with Charlton Athletic concerning a possible transfer of Dennis Rommedahl has been reached. Rommedahl must reach an agreement with the club.”
The 25-year-old has scored 29 goals in 161 matches for PSV.
Dutch radio reported that Rommedahl would move to The Valley after Euro 2004.
However, Charlton chief executive Peter Varney told the club website, www.cafc.co.uk: “Whether or not we are interested in players at the championships, it is widely known that the national team managers will not allow any of their players to conduct transfer negotiations while they are still involved.
“The stories circulating at the moment are typical of the sort of press speculation that always goes on at this stage of the summer.”
