Dublin woman finds €117,000 Lotto ticket while cleaning her car

Champagne corks were popping in the National Lottery Winners Room in Abbey Street, Dublin today as a lucky Dublin lady celebrated her surprise Lotto win of €117,023.

The ecstatic winner stated that she was extremely fortunate that she found out about her win after confessing that she rarely ever checks her tickets,

"As a long-time Lotto player, I regularly purchase my Quick Pick tickets but I very rarely ever check them until I hear about a local winner," she said.

"I have bundles of out-of-date tickets in my house and in my car and sometimes we laugh that I’ve probably already won the Lotto jackpot 10 times but I never found out about it.

"I was clearing some rubbish out my car on Sunday, including some old lottery tickets!

"This one ticket was just glaring at me in between my two front seats so I put it aside to check later.

"When I went into the shop to scan my ticket, the shop keeper and I were absolutely dumbstruck, I don’t know which of us got the biggest shock."

She matched 5 numbers and the bonus ball on the main Lotto draw on Saturday, July 16.

The woman, who wishes to keep her win private, bought her Quick Pick selection ticket at The White House Shop in Baldoyle in Dublin 13 on the day of the draw.

She has now downloaded the National Lottery App to check her tickets on her phone added,

"I would urge every Lottery player in the country to constantly check their tickets," she said.

"Just because a big jackpot isn’t won in your area, it could still be worth a lot of money, I am living proof of that. I have the App now so there’s no excuse!"

Wednesday’s jackpot is an estimated €5.5m.
