Possible protests at meat plants over BSE cull

SIPTU is seeking an urgent meeting with the Minister for Agriculture to seek compensation for thousands of workers in meat plants nationwide because of the current cattle cull.

SIPTU is seeking an urgent meeting with the Minister for Agriculture to seek compensation for thousands of workers in meat plants nationwide because of the current cattle cull.

The union is demanding the meeting following job losses in recent days in plants in Monaghan, Leitrim and Mayo.

SIPTU's John Kane said the union's elected representatives will convene next week to discuss a possible campaign of action, which may include protests at meat plants.
