AC Milan coach Carlo Ancelotti believes Alex Ferguson’s prediction that Juventus will clinch the Champions League trophy at Old Trafford tomorrow is all wrong.
The Manchester United coach stated earlier this week that Marcello Lippi’s Juventus will be the European Champions.
“Ferguson is well regarded in Europe but I do not agree with him, I hope the opposite happens,” said Ancelotti at today’s press conference.
In fact, Ancelotti is ready to take back to Milan the Champions League trophy that has avoided them since the 1993-1994 season on Wednesday’s unique final.
The Rossonero coach continued: “This match is very special for us, we are playing against an Italian team we know, we are playing away from Italy, in the Champions League final, it is the most stimulating, beautiful and most important match for us.
“Tomorrow’s match represents for me victory, to bring the club I work for a very prestigious trophy because the most important thing is to bring the Cup to Milan.”
Italian right back Alessandro Costacurta is doubtful for Wednesday’s clash after picking up a boot in his lower leg, with Roque Junior set to take his place.
The good news for Ancelotti is that Brazilian goalkeeper Dida and second goalkeeper Christian Abbiati have both recovered from their respective hand injuries and are available.
Ancelotti has hit back at critics that fear that the final will be an example of the “catenaccio” system.
He said: “We are proud in Italy to play our football, Italy should not be embarrased by the football we do, we have had three teams in the Champions League semi-final – which is a big achievement.”
However, the 43-year-old coach believes that Milan are capable of showing good football and achieving results.
“I think we can achieve both but the result is very important. Juventus are an organised team, very solid, they can alternate players and have chances to score,” he added.
“But the team’s conviction and preparation towards this match gives me a lot of satisfaction.
“Compared to our week when we faced Inter this seems like a walk in the park.”
