US computer firm EMC has announced plans to lay off 90 workers in Ovens, Co Cork.

The company, which employs 1,300 people at its Ovens plant, said the lay-offs are part of a global rationalisation plan.

The majority of the job cuts will affect production line workers.

EMC said it hopes all the cuts can be achieved through voluntary redundancy.

In March, the company also announced plans to lay off 160 workers through a voluntary redundancy scheme, but 300 workers ended up taking up the offer.
