Kevin Phillips’ agent has confirmed Rangers are interested in signing the Sunderland striker.
Ibrox boss Alex McLeish is keen to bolster his forward line ahead of the new campaign as the club prepare to defend the domestic treble and for the Champions League.
That could mean making a bid of around £2m (€2.84m) to cash-strapped Sunderland for Phillips – but his agent Phil Smith admits the move is far from being a done deal.
He said: “There has been interest from Rangers, but, as yet, no offer has been made.
“Clubs will be looking at Sunderland’s plight and seeing if they can take advantage.
“Other clubs are interested and Kevin just wants the whole thing sorted out.
“He would like to know where he is playing next season, but I can’t see this being resolved quickly.”
