Packets of crisps are being sold in Egypt bearing the image of Yasser Arafat.

The new bags are printed in the Palestinian colours of green, red, black and white. At the centre stands an Arafat, saluting with his right hand and holding a Palestinian flag with the other.

The name of the new brand is Abu Ammar, Arafat's nom de guerre. In smaller print, the words hero of the struggle appear below the name.

The cheese-flavoured chips cost 3p (5 cent) a bag, and vendors are reporting a brisk business selling them. For every 50 bags sold, 3p (5 cent) will be donated to the "Palestinian cause."

Crisp company officials declined comment, but a message on the back of each bag says: "The more you buy, the more you build."
