There is a new push for peace in the teachers' row.
At the core of the initiative is the proposed establishment of a forum to look at the future of the profession and the key issues at the centre of the dispute.
However, both sides have warned that there was still work to be done and were talking down the possibility of a breakthrough at this stage.
There is some hope, though, that enough progress can be made to prevent next week's proposed stoppages going ahead.
According to reports, the formation of a teaching forum, which would look at issues including pay, exam work, supervision, substitution and voluntary activities, is central to the peace formula.
