Loyalists have described their first meeting with the North's Chief Constable Hugh Orde as constructive and worthwhile.
A delegation of loyalists, including paramilitaries, met Mr Orde last night to discuss their concerns about crime and policing in Protestant areas.
Loyalists have complained that Hugh Orde has demonised the UDA and UVF - referring to them constantly in terms of drug dealing and criminality.
The group of 12 who attended are all members of the Loyalist Commission, which includes UVF and UDA spokesmen as well as Protestant clergy and members of the Ulster Unionist Party.
Speaking after the meeting at police headquarters, both sides described the discussions as very positive and said more meetings would follow.
Mr Orde said the Loyalist Commission understood the police had to tackle criminal behaviour and were themselves concerned about drugs.
