Severe flooding caused by heavy monsoon rains have displaced some 500,000 people, an official report said today.

Severe flooding caused by heavy monsoon rains have displaced some 500,000 people, an official report said today.

About 800 villages have been submerged in the state of Assam alone, according to the report.

More than 120 people have been killed in India since the monsoon began working its way up the subcontinent on May 25, arriving a week before it was expected.

The monsoon season ends in October.
