A new report on the introduction of a shorter working week for doctors warns of widespread implications for the health services.

A new report on the introduction of a shorter working week for doctors warns of widespread implications for the health services.

But the report of the national joint steering group which was presented to the Health Minister Michael Martin this afternoon rejects any suggestions that they will result in hospital closures.

Recommending an increase in consulting doctors in line with the shorter working hours, it does accept the process could result in a redefinition of roles of some hospitals around the country.
