Rail passengers travelling to the west and south of the country are facing severe disruption this bank holiday weekend, with Heuston Station in Dublin closed for redevelopment.

The station will shut down at 9am tomorrow morning and will not reopen until Monday afternoon.

Passengers travelling to and from Heuston will have to take bus transfers from various stations in Co Kildare and are advised to book tickets in advance.

Full fares will apply, but vouchers will be offered to those forced to avail of the bus service.

A spokesman for Iarnrod Eireann insisted that 85% of passengers will not be affected by the closure.
