Young Wales had to dig in unexpectedly before they kept their unbeaten record in this season’s junior Six Nations.

Wales tore into the Scots in the opening stages with only some excellent defence preventing an immediate score.

After five minutes the Welsh went ahead with a penalty from Gavin Henson and then right-winger Richard Johnston notched their first try.

The Scots caught their wind and in the 26th minute Neil Stenhouse scored a drop goal to bring the score back to 8-3.

However within a minute the Scots had shot themselves in the foot.

Over-ambitious passing in their own twenty-two saw the ball loose and visiting flanker Andy Lloyd scored for Henson to convert.

Close to the interval the Scots again made a bad error and a penalty was goaled by Henson to give Wales their half-time lead of 18-3.

Having withstood another dynamic Welsh opening the Scots kicked a penalty through Stenhouse. Although Henson dropped a goal, the Scots were now in the match.

After 63 minutes replacement Euan Murray crashed over and nine minutes later Davide Frame’s break ended in a try by Ross Cook, converted by Stenhouse.

At 21-18 the Welsh looked shaky, but the Scots gave away a five-metre scrum from which Henson went over. He converted from wide out and kicked a penalty deep into stoppage time.
