Olympics: IBA to vote against Hickey

The Irish Basketball Association has backed the bid by Richard Burrows to oust Pat Hickey as President of the Olympic Council of Ireland.

The Irish Basketball Association has backed the bid by Richard Burrows to oust Pat Hickey as President of the Olympic Council of Ireland.

IBA President Finn Ahern said this morning: "The time for direct action is now.

Our athletes cannot afford to wait another four years to have a unified support structure that combines the best efforts of the OCI, Irish Sports Council and National Coaching & Training Centre in providing the high level of assistance that they deserve."

So strong are the IBA's views on the issue, that the association has put forward Ahern as a "change candidate" for the position of General Secretary.
