A meeting of the national executive of the Progressive Democrats is underway in Dublin this afternoon. Members are considering a challenge to Mary Harney's leadership of the party.

Brian Russell, who is a member of the PD's national executive, said he is moving against the Tanaiste over the party's poor performance in the opinion polls.

However, PD sources expect the challenge to be unsuccessful.
