Pop Idol winner Will Young was realising a dream today as he landed his first number one single with his debut release.
The 23-year-old will be officially announced as the UK’s chart topper following a week’s phenomenal sales of his double A-side release of Westlife cover Evergreen and Anything is Possible.
The former politics graduate, who triumphed in the television talent show, has already entered the record books with the fastest selling UK single of all time.
Since it went on sale last Monday, the single has been flying off the shelves, looking likely to clear in excess of one million - the first time this will have been achieved in chart history.
Band Aid’s Do They Know It’s Christmas held the previous record for first week sales, shifting 750,000 when it was released in December 1984.
Confirmation of Will’s number one record will be given on BBC Radio One’s Mark Goodier chart run down beginning at 4pm.
