Church head calls for unity on police issue
The head of the Presbyterian Church, Dr Trevor Morrow, has urged all political parties in the North to accept the new policing proposals.
The policing issue has proven to be a major hurdle to peace, along with failure on decommissioning and demilitarisation. Despite a recruitment drive for the new police service set to begin tomorrow, both Sinn Fein and the SDLP have refused to nominate a person to the Police Board.
"It is not morally right to say we will not keep the law because we don't agree with it. "We don't have any alternative. This is the law of the land that has been passed. For the sake of us all, whatever our policies or religion, it is time for the new police board to be up and running and for people to now begin to join the new police service," Dr Morrow said.
