Wishlist: Storage, smart TVs and serpentine lighting

Esther N McCarthy copperfasts her love for storage, smart TVs and serpentine lighting with her picks this week.

Independent Irish companies are always top of our Wishlist and we recently came across Seven Wood, a company that champions other independent brands, craftspeople and designers.

NOIA was originally a pop-up idea by the store for December and January in Kildare Village but has been such a success it has been extended until April, with the showroom and studio in Portobello, Dublin.

Pictured is the Sol lamp by Edgar: It was €100 and is now €66, the tableware is Industrial London by DaTerra ceramics: the serving bowl was, €55, now €36; the serving platter was €55, wow €30; the cereal bowl set of four was €90, now €60; the pasta bowl set of four was €100, now €68 and the dinner plate set was €100, and is now €68.

Not forgetting the stunning serving board, it’s smoked oak by Warren Hayes and was priced at €69 and is now €46. For more, see coolreedesign.ie, edgarhome.com, daterrawithlove.pt and sevenwood.ie for more.

TVs just keep getting smarter and smarter. Check out The Frame by Samsung, it’s snazzy unique selling point is that when you switch it off, it basically turns into a work of art, blending into your living space.

A pretty cool idea, I reckon. So there’s an Art Mode feature, where you can select the art of your choice from over 100 pieces by famous artists that have been selected by Samsung. Or you can personalise it and display your own works of art - like the family snaps.

There’s also the option of signing up to the Art Store with a monthly subscription of €4.99 or making one-off purchases of €19.99. It’s award-winning too, with The Frame scooping the ‘Best of Innovation’ award at the 2017 CES.

It comes in in three sizes: 65”, 55” and 43” and is available from selected retailers nationwide. Pricing, I’m told, is subject to individual retailers. www.Samsung.com

Dealz are keeping the copper trend alive and kicking with a whole range of magic metallics in store for the princely sum of €1.50. We like this coffee container. Shiny. www.dealz.ie

Solar power is super economic, and even though it works best when placed in direct sunlight, you’ll still get a charge on a good day in January in Ireland. This Heart of House Hanbury wooden lantern from Argos is solar powered, so no stressing about batteries or dripping candles. It’s €22.50. www.argos.ie

Looking online this week, this silver beauty caught my magpie eye. It’s the Coast vase and comes in a variety of sizes, this is the medium and it’s €45 from www.kellyhoppeninteriors.com

How gorgeous is this cobra lamp? It’s from the Abigail Ahern collection in Debenhams nationwide. Sleek and sexy and yours for €107. www.debenhams.ie

Neptune are channelling the classic country kitchen with these pantry-style storage units. Behold the Chichester larder with its three pull-out vegetable trays. These cabinets are a smart design detail, and Irish stockists include The Pavilion Garden Centre in Ballygarvan, and Browsers in Limerick, see www.neputune.com for more.

I can’t help but think of spring when I see this offering from Fox & Ivy, the interiors range exclusive to Tesco stores. Think plush accessories, intricately designed fabrics and burnished flashes of metallic. Pictured is the Jardin range, I love the vintage floral vibe. Price wise - the dinner set with four dinner plates, side plates and bowls is €55, four wine glasses are €18 and the table runner is a very reasonable €21.50. See www.tesco.ie for more.
