A man is being questioned about an assault on a young woman on the southside of Dublin.

A man is being questioned about an assault on a young woman on the southside of Dublin.

The 22-year-old victim was attacked on a street in Rathmines in the early hours of this morning.

This alleged attack happened on Effra Road in Rathmines at around 12.30am this morning.

The victim, a woman in her early 20s, told Gardaí she was walking along the residential street when she was attacked from behind.

She claims punches were thrown and she was pulled to the ground.

Locals heard her screams and raised the alarm.

Investigating officers were given a description of her attacker and a man was arrested some time later.

The 49-year-old is being questioned at Terenure Garda Station while the victim is being treated for her injuries in hospital.
