Workers at the Youghal Carpet Yarns plant have been told their jobs are to go. The company is to close today following a meeting between unions, management and employees.

Joe O'Flynn of SIPTU represents some of the workers at the Youghal's carpet plant. "The employees have been devastated by the blow because just before Christmas they agreed a severe cost reduction rescue plan.

"They believed that in making those sacrifices and postponing wage agreements and other cost cutting measures the plant would be viable".
