It turns out that yesterday was not the hottest day of the year after all.

There were forecasts that it might get up to 29 degrees in parts of the midlands yesterday afternoon.

But Met Éireann said today the hottest temperature recorded was 26 degrees in Moorepark in Co Cork.

Tuesday was the hottest day so far with 27 degrees in Furnace in Co Mayo.
