A woman in her 80s is recovering in hospital this evening after a fire which claimed the claimed the life of her son.

A woman in her 80s is recovering in hospital this evening after a fire which claimed the claimed the life of her son.

The 55 year old man was found dead after a blaze broke out in a house at Jordanstown, Westmeath early this morning.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene while the elderly woman was taken to hospital.

A technical examination is being carried out at the scene, but initial investigations suggest the fire was started accidentally.
