A woman in her 20s has been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of a man in Dublin's north inner city last night.

Detectives are questioning a woman about the killing of a man in a suspected gun attack in central Dublin.

The victim, who has yet to be identified, is believed to have been shot in the face outside an apartment complex at Killarney Court, near Buckingham Street, last night.

It is suspected that a shotgun was used in the attack in the north inner city at around 11.45pm.

The man died at the scene and his body has been taken to Dublin City Morgue in Marino for a post-mortem examination.

A woman aged 20 was arrested and is being detained at Store Street Garda station. She is being quizzed under section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act.

The area of the shooting has been sealed off for a full forensic examination by Garda technical experts. The state pathologist was asked to attend the scene.

Investigating gardai are trying to establish if there is any link with other incidents in the north inner city.

A taxi driver was held at gunpoint during a robbery at Terrace Place, close to Buckingham Street, at around 7.25pm last night.

It is believed a shotgun was used in the hold-up. The lone attacker made off on foot after demanding cash from the driver.

Gardai have arrested a 31-year-old man in connection with the robbery. He is being held at Mountjoy Garda station under section four of the Criminal Justice Act.

In another incident, at 6.10am today, a 55-year-old man was assaulted in a robbery at nearby Mabbot Lane, off Talbot Street. The victim was taken to the Mater Hospital where he is being treated for minor injuries.

A Garda spokesman said there was no link yet made between the robberies and the shooting.

Update

Gardai investigating the murder of a male that occurred at Killarney Court, Dublin 1 last night have detained a 31-year-old male in relation to the murder.

He is currently detained under the provisions of Section 4 of The Criminal Justice Act 1984 at Mountjoy Garda Station.

The post mortem has been completed and the results have been passed to the investigation team which confirm that the deceased died from gunshot injuries.
