An elderly woman has died in a house fire in Co Donegal.

An elderly woman has died in a house fire in Co Donegal.

Gardaí are investigating the blaze which started just after 4pm this afternoon.

It is believed the woman was in her 90s and lived on her own in the Illies area of Buncrana.

Garda forensics will carry out a technical examination tomorrow morning to determine the cause of the fire.

Garda Inspector David Murphy said: "At this stage, the scene has been preserved and a full examination of the scene will take place tomorrow morning".
