A woman has died in a car accident in Co Offaly.

A woman has died in a car accident in Co Offaly.

Gardaí in Banagher are investigating the single-vehicle traffic accident on the Ballycumber Road (R436) at about 4pm this afternoon.

A female in her late 40’s was killed when her car lost control and left the road around 2km east of Ferbane.

She was the only person in the car and no other vehicles were involved.

She was pronounced dead at the scene and her body has been removed to The Midlands Regional Hospital in Tullamore.

The road is currently closed while Gardaí carry out a technical examination.

Gardai have appealled for witnesses to contact Banagher Garda Station on 057-9151310, the Garda Confidential Telephone Line 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station.
