A woman has been killed in a road accident in County Longford this morning.

A woman has been killed in a road accident in County Longford this morning.

Gardaí say the 55-year-old pedestrian died when she was struck by a car at Legan village at around 1.30am.

She was pronounced dead at the scene and her body removed to The Midlands Regional Hospital at Mullingar.

The driver of the car, a man in his early 40’s, has been arrested.

The road is currently closed in Legan Village for a forensic examination.
