A 42-year-old woman was arrested at Shannon Airport last night after a holiday flight was forced to divert and land.

A 42-year-old woman was arrested at Shannon Airport last night after a holiday flight was forced to divert and land.

Jet2.com flight LS-518 was travelling from Tenerife to Newcastle in England at the time.

There were 161 passengers and a crew of six on board the Boeing 737-800 jet.

The crew reported that the passenger was disruptive and intoxicated and that they wanted to land and have her removed from the aircraft.

Gardaí and members of the Airport Police were waiting for the plane when it touched down shortly after 10.00pm.

The woman was removed from the aircraft and arrested before being taken to Shannon Garda Station for questioning.

She has since been released without charge while Gardaí have confirmed that a file on the incident will be sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions.

The flight continued its journey to Newcastle at 12.23am today.
