Woman admits carrying loaded gun at Connolly Station

A 21-year-old woman is to be released from jail today after pleading guilty to possessing a loaded gun at Connolly Station in Dublin.

The court heard Nikita Murtagh was observed pushing a buggy with a child in it and then handing a man a white paper bag.

The bag contained a shoebox with a loaded semi-automatic pistol inside.

Ms Murtagh was later arrested at a bus stop at Dublin Airport and told gardaí in interviews that she didn’t know what was in the box.

The mother-of-one, of Mariners Port in Dublin 1, was used in the crime as she was a "fresh face", who had not come to garda attention.

She was sentenced to three years in jail.

The sentence was backdated to when she first went into custody last July, and with the balance suspended, she was released from prison.

Ms Murtagh mouthed: ‘Oh My God’ and started crying when she heard this.

Judge Tony Hunt said he was doing this in consideration for her child and told her to behave herself and stay out of trouble.
