Web users warned about dangers of cyber crime

Web users are being warned today that cyber criminals are gathering information on us all the time.

Skimming, phishing and vishing are scams used by criminals to collect personal details from individuals and companies.

The warning comes as experts gather in Dublin today for the 'Zero Day Con' which examines cyber security.

Detective Chief Superintendent Pat Lordan says there are a number of basic steps we can take to prevent fraud.

"Under no circumstances in any restaurant, bar, club, garage, should you ever leave your card go out of your vision, because in a millisecond, someone can scan the details of your card," he said.

"Likewise, if you see something suspciios at an ATM machine, you should alert the gardaí."
