Warnings end after winds of 120kms per hour buffet some areas; flights disrupted
Two wind warnings which were put in place across the country last night have now ended.
Met Éireann issued a status orange wind alert across Co Donegal, warning of wind speeds gusting from 90kms to 120kms per hour.
A yellow warning was put in place for Munster, Connacht, Leinster, Cavan and Monaghan, with gusts of up to 110kms per hour.
The warnings which were issued yesterday evening, ended at 6am today. Drivers are still urged to take extra care with strong winds in places.
Dublin Airport said there was still some minor disruption to flights this morning due to the severe weather.
All arrivals and departures were suspended for around an hour after 10pm yesterday due to strong winds.
The DAA said six flights were cancelled this morning because of severe gusts, but most flights would operate as normal.
Meanwhile, thousands of homes are without power in Scotland as stormy conditions hit the northern half of the UK.
Record gales of 113 miles per hour were recorded in Stornoway overnight.
All schools in the Western Isles and Orkney have been closed this morning.
